Modern and Contemporary Art. Paul Cezanne was not the best known of painters but his influence was such that he is considered one of the fathers of the modern art. Painters like Gauguin or Serusier had given at the end of the nineteenth century raw and primary colors to painting. Another group of painters, including Maurice Vlaminck, Andre Derain, Henri Matisse or Kees van Dongen, provoked the anger of the criticism which dealt with 'fauves" in reference to the bright, gaudy colors of their works. Fauvism was born! Dadaism is one of the forerunners of the surrealist movement. This movement with a widely playful and provocative vocation sought to release the creativity through humor and surprise. The abstract art gave birth to many currents, some little known: the lyrical abstraction (Kandinsky), non-figurative painting , the geometrical abstraction (Piet Mondrian), the abstract expressionism (Jackson Pollock)…
