Roger de La Fresnaye, was born on July 11th, 1885 in Mans and died on November 27th, 1925 in Grasse, is a French cubist painter. From 1908, he was the pupil of Maurice Denis and Paul Sérusier in the Academy Ranson. He constructed a workshop of painting and a workshop of sculpture in the castle of Beauvernay in Saint-Nizier-sous-Charlieu, ownership of his maternal forefathers where he spent the most of his vacations since his childhood. He received there Jean Hugo and his spouse Valentine Gross, both painters, Irène Lagut, Alfred Courmes, his only pupil, as well as musicians as George Auric, Erik Satie, Francis Poulenc, etc.
