Plum brandy

Tax included

"Plum brandy" is a painting by Edouard Manet made in 1878. The work has the distinction of belonging to both the category of scenes of cafes and that of female portraits, both genres popular with Manet.

The model is probably the actress Ellen Andrée, who posed in a cafe decor reproduced in the workshop, and seems frozen in a soft and melancholic reverie. The café represented is The New Athens, meeting place of the Impressionist movement.
