The Glass of Wine

Tax included

It is the man who pours wine to the woman - as an aphrodisiac intended to relax her resistance. His hand holds the handle of a white carafe which returns in several paintings of Vermeer like a significant leitmotiv. It can not not be seen in the center of the picture. A musical entertainment apparently preceded this scene as evidenced by the lute on the chair and the scores on the table.
